View Full Version : Has Imbel changed the barrel threading on new recievers slightly
March 27, 2002, 00:32
I am going to help a friend barrel his Imbel on a imbel kit. while trial fitting the barrel to the reciever I noticed it took quite a bit of effort to hand turn it into the reciever. This is a century marked R1A1 reciever. I have done DSA/entreprise/gear logo Imbel and Dpms all except the Dpms was smooth when mating the barrel and reciever.
Is this normal for the current Imbels??

Every IMBEL I've done was a little tight with used barrels. New barrel screwed right in. I think the used barrels have slightly distorted threads.

I have 2 2001 dated R1A1 IMBELS and three separate G-1 barrels all hand timed to 10:30 before torqueing.

Similar here. R1A1 2001 Imbel and Dan's grade 3. Hand turn the bbl in a bit, back out, wipe threads, light oil, repeat until it reaches the receiver with moderately heavy effort. Hand timing is at about 9:30-10:00 now. I'll know more later...

I've had a trouble hand tighting imbel barrels before. Seems that on some imbel rifles the barrel timing was short and the factory just tightened them up distorting some of the threads.
