Okay, so I owe my dad $400. He doesn't need the money, but I still need to pay him back sometime. I just bought dunkrd's G1 kit for $450. I'll have the money my next paycheck.

I broke the news to my girlfriend last night on the phone.

"You know prom is in a little over a month."

Mods, please ban me from the marketplace. :)

We didn't have a prom. They still don't. Commencement exercise in the auditorium, reception in the gynasium (VERY well supervised) and the lights go out before midnight.

Around here they rent some extravagant venue. The dumbass parents and faculty wring their hands and whine afterward. Because each year somebody gets, drunk, raped, pregnant and damages are incurred to the beach houses that were rented "just for the kids to hang-out and do nothing untoward".

Stupid people shouldn't breed.

Takes some of us longer to figure that out than others. "Tis no minor lesson, that one.

Matter of fact, as long as the gal is still "just" a girlfriend, the less one makes of her "issues" the more energy one will reserve for when it is REALLY needed later in life. Make no mistake, one WILL need the energy, unless a bloke is VERY lucky. I ain't met one of them yet. Met a few what lies like hell about it tho'.

God's busy, he sent me instead.

Pay your Dad back, and pay him back now.

Screw the Prom, pay your Dad back instead.

Don't now, or ever, fall for the whole High School thing. Don't buy the year book, don't buy the class ring, don't buy the CD or DVD. Buy an FAL instead. After you pay your Dad back.

Don't ask a mod to do something for you that you are perfectly capable of doing yourself.

Your dad lets you borrow money?

You go to the Prom, not to Highpower Practice night? (or atleast that falls on the same night as prom over here.)

What a messed up world we live in.

...Note to self, Remember Highpower practice on the 8th...

I went to Prom. Don't remember it. Much. Not from booze--just boredom.

I do remember my first FAL--and my second, and my third, my fourth.........

+1 Except buy the FAL with your own money when you can afford it, not what you borrowed from someone else.

Dude,

Prom is an excuse to score. What the hell has happened to teens today?

Vince

P.S. Pay your Dad back. Being responsible is very important.

Pay Dad. (It's not about the money...)

The rifle is yours allready . (Till death do you part)

The girl. (She should be so grateful to have such a responsible, family oriented, investment minded young man in her life that she will go out and get a job to pay her fair share.)

Girls and rifles will come and go, your first seem more important than they are.

The money thing will work out. Work a little extra, sell off some stuff or go to the bank and get a student Visa. ($500 limit unsecured)

Guns, women, and money. Damn. It seems like there is a song there...

I have yet to have my heart ripped from my chest, thrown in a mudhole and trampled underfoot by an FAL! There will always be women...will there always be FAL kits?

Very good advice.

All the big-dogs at the H.S. will be nobodies in a sea of nobodies the day after graduation. Some of them won't handle it too well and be dead or in jail this time next year.

What are you gonna do with a class ring, yearbook, or jacket when you're 50, and you will be 50, believe me. The people I know with the most problems are the ones still living in their past "glory days".

Go to school or get a job and show up every day, and you'll be way ahead of most classmates in a few years. Have some fun (rhymes with gun) with your extra money and don't let someone call the shots this early in life.

I can see from some of the responses why some of you guys have been married and divorced several times, and why I am still married after almost 44 years.

We didn't have a prom.

Well, when there are only 2 people in your school!

Went to the prom. Had a great time. Didn't score. (37 years ago)
Didn't get really interested in guns till I was a lot older.

Pay dad back. Tell the gal it is not the end of the world. Do your home work and graduate from high school and go to college get a good degree in a technical field and make lots of money. Marry the girl, and buy lots of guns and toys!

Way cool. Is that the refinished kit from DSA? My refinished DSA G-1 turned into a very nice shooter.

Oh, Papal Rat says you still need to pay your debts. http://chilirat.com/emoticons/chilirat_pope.gif

Pay your dad back. Keep the kit. Go to prom.

Don't buy receiver or US parts any time soon. You'll go even more broke.:skull:

not true!
I've been happily married to this gal for 26 years. She even bought me a Kowa 821 spotting scope and a couple of guns. I DON'T dance!!
(but I do send her roses a the office.....shhh don't tell my trade secrets.. )
I didn't go to the prom back in 1964/5 because:
1)I didn't have the dough
2)I didn't have a girl friend
3)I didn't care as I graduated on Jun 11th, and on Jun 14th I was at Ft. Knox, KY in B.C.T.
4)none of the girls cared about number 3 above because I did not own a 1965 Corvette!
5)I didn't care about any of the girls in number 4 above!!!

In later years, I have found that all the goody goody two shoe folks have ended up being a bunch of losers. One clown even still wears his letter jacket and talks about the big football game like it was yesterday. GET A LIFE!! On the other hand, all the "screw ups" like myself turned out okay...we aren't rich but we are holding our own.

Actually, I agree with Kfranz. Great advice.

Lots of good advice above ( well, mostly ;) ).
Just consider: in extremis, how many problems will the lady friend solve ? How many will the G1 NOT solve  :D )
I rest my case.
Do NOT pay dad back - buy HIM a FAL of his own instead :shades:

Nope not at all, people are more important than things.
If it was my son, and he was not paying me the money back, whether I needed it or not, I might consider leaving my estate to the animal shelter...

If I borrowed that much money from my old man and I didn't pay him back next day....

Well then...

I'm pretty sure he would be more than happy to take me to the homeless shelter.

Mason, as a dad with teenage kids, pay your dad back. This is and will be important whether or not he needs the money. He needs a demonstrably responsible son more.
Solid gun investments are a good idea, within financial reason... some are real keepers, some become tradin stock. All are good to get to know and possess.
The prom, thats a personal thing. Do what feels RIGHT for you. As I tell my kids, these are the times of your life- enjoy but don't take stuff too seriously. LIVE.
As for the girl..... they come and they go, fer chrissake wear the pants. In any relationship compromise and consideration are necessary and good... just don't sell out who and what you are for boo-tay. American women are spoiled, pushy and dominance oriented. Marry you a good traditional girl who will carry fine sons and knows her place- and treat her like the queen of your life!
Stay in school, get a four year degree in anything and THINK. BE. LIVE. DO.
