I also just recently got a couple of cases of SA, metal can with battle packs inside. Has anyone shot this? Is it in good shape or should I open the battle packs to see?

It is very good ammo.
I have opened quite a few battlepacks of it. And then shot it. Never seen a problem of any sort whether cosmetic or performance. Enjoy it.

Its good stuff. Wish I could buy more of it. Once its gone I will be hard pressed to find better surplus. I hope some shows up soon. Hirt -gone, Port -gone, FN - gone, SA - going up.

I've been shooting their SA stuff for some time through a CETME, a "super match" M1A, a PTR, and my FAL. Not only no problems, but seemed more than reasonably accurate. As a comparison, from the bench I can keep my M1A just over 1 inch at 100 yards (rifle shoots waaaay better than I can) with Federal 168gr HPBT match ammo and the SA ammo between 2-3 inches. I'd say that is pretty darn good for surplus ammo.

On my other .308 rifles (including the FAL) the SA shoots 3-4" and using the expensive Federal match ammo makes no sense in a battle rifle. The ammo is probably more accurate than I can hold anyway - I'm an old guy with bad eyes. Guess I'm gonna have to give up on the iron sights pretty soon and go to a scope. Wish it wasn't so. Wife got me a SUIT for my FAL (what a gal!!!) but I'm not sure that it doesn't wobble some.
