Does anyone know of a good full service gunsmith in the San Antonio TX. area?
Just in case I don't like the way the parkerizing comes out. Also a dumb question, should I park before or after I assembel the barrel and receiver?

Cant answer the first question, but I do know there are builders and 'smiffs all over Tx.
As for the parking, barrel it first. If you have the stuff to do it with, its sooooo easy.

I use commercial now, from Lauer weaponry, makers of DuraCoat. Alot of people use Brownells, but they jacked the price up a while back and the Lauer is cheaper. Easy to use, good even finish. That being said, when I run out of what I've got, I'm going to roll my own. Seems pretty easy (famous last words!). There are some recipes and alot of info at http://www.parkerizingtanks.com/yabbse/index.php (http://) .

Don't know about San Antonio but you could send it to Sledghammer Arms Works in Mansfield Texas. Randy is a top notch smith and will do you a great job!

Before you spend all that time looking for a local gunsmith, do keep in mind that if you do that you'll have to pay sales tax on the value of the services they provide. In most cases, this will be more than what youll spend on shipping, both send and return to a gunsmith out of state who has a better reputation for FAL building (builds done by a recognized smith will command more resale value as well) and perhaps even more resonable prices.

Also keep in mind there is no "hassle" involved in shipping a rifle or receiver to a licensed gunsmith, as you dont need any other FFL transfers involved at all. You ship direct to them and they ship back direct to you.
