View Full Version : Which Mount For Aimpoint On FAL?

I've done a bit of searching, but not found what I'm needing. Basicly wanting to put an aimpoint on my FAL with a DSA mount. Looking at what will put the Aimpoint in the optimum position. I realize I probably won't be able to cowitness, but don't want the Aimpoint sitting up too high either. Though I do use one on my AR15 with a Larue mount that puts the irons in the bottom third and works well, for some reason I was thinking a lower mount might work well on the FAL.

Go with the LaRue low mount.

Have you looked at the ARMS Mounts?

Try the ARMS #22M68 throw lever mount. On mine it works great, easy to attach and ( almost ) rock solid.

The only way you can get an aimpoint to remotely cowitness on an fal is to use a WAC SUPERLOW mount.
I only have the regular wac mount so I had to forgo the idea of cowitnessing. My next concern was height of the glass. I used to have an eotech but got rid of it because it sat just a tad too high.
Aimpoint originally came with both factory mount and arms 68 mount. Tried the arms mount but ended up using the factory mount because the aimpoint sits lower and provides a better cheek weld.
Also, upon inspection of the arms mount I realized that the only locking mechanism relies on a small piece of thin metal to provide a snug fit. While the rest of the mount is rock solid I just didn't like that for psychological reasons.
I don't know why people put down the aimpoint factory mount (maybe because it's aluminum?) but I like it and found it to be the best for ME in keeping the aimpoint as low as possible.
HTH and YMMV

thanks for the input guys. after doing some research, i went with the factory aimpoint mount, and hoped for the best.
well, first three shots sighting in at 25 were almost all in the same hole. and perfectly sighted in. i thought, damn, todays going to be a good day.
it didn't take me long though to start wondering why my shots were straying. at first i thought it was me. after getting back inside, i realized the mount had loosened.
it actually didn't loosen on the rings, but the screw on the base. so the scope was wobbling around.
i did not use loctite on the thumbscrew, but didn't think that was such a good idea anyway. i really thought that the factory aimpoint mount looked solid, but am starting to wonder.
are there ANY other mounts that sit near as low as the aimpoint mount? the only one by larue that i saw that looked like it maybe pretty low is the RAS mount.
anyway, wanting to get this thing up and running soon so i can go hunt some hogs. any other input would be greatly appreciated.

I have always used the factory mount. A little blue loctite and it works like a champ. No issues/no loss of zero for over 1000+ rounds of SA. It also cowitnesses just fine.

I see your Aimpoint is mounted directly above the ejection port. Does ejecting brass ever ding your scope? I'd like to move my scope forward if brass strikes aren't a problem.
Thanks.

These areas get dinged up, but nothing severe on the scope itself. The top cover and the ring mount take a small beating...mostly finish dings, not bad gouges in the metal. Like I said, over a 1000 rounds and still going stong. She was not meant to be a pretty thing, just a workhorse to get me through my day.
