View Full Version : FAL Barrel Group Buy, anyone interested?

I was thinking if there was enough interest about putting together a barrel group buy.

I noticed that DSA has Steyr refininished hammer forged barrels for $99 bucks. They also have standard contour US made ready to go nib including gas block for $275. At what price would you join a group buy? I was thinking DSA might sell the US w/gas block for under $250 or dealer pricing to falfiles members approx $200ish. (guessing from list to dealer on receivers)

I have also contacted Green Mountain Barrel Co. Inc concerning pricing for 50 and 100 units/ metric fal barrels without gas blocks. Is there any interest??? I have not yet gotten a price quote but i imagine it will be in the $85-90.

If Green Mountain is not interested in making fal barrels, i will contact Pac-Nor in Brookings Oregon and see if they are interested.

This is a gauging interest thread. Please post as to if you are interested and at what price you would commit. As i will be hedging this buy with my own funds, i will need very firm commitments.

I think we should try to get imported barrels while we still can for a reasonable amount of money. US made barrels will always be available if there's a demand.

Good luck. I called every barrel manufacturer in the Brownells catalog back in June and was pricing .308 blanks for our present project. Nobody would sell me an uncut blank for less than 100 bucks, and quantity pricing, if it was available at all, cut off at 50 units.

Minimum orders for finished barrels were in the 100 unit range, too.

Happy telephoning.

What holds my interest is a 26-27" heavy contour barrel readily adaptable to a free-float system. A good medium contour barrel cheaper than what DSA sells would have interested me a couple of years ago - but I will not be rebarreling any of my FALs in the future.

Hope you come up with something,

-Bill

And if you do decide to rebarrel a particular G1, Bill, I'll happily help you dispose of the barrel...

Bill, with respect, you are talking about a custom barrel that would sell maybe 2 or 3 units a YEAR at most. The only way you will get that kind of spec is from contracting with someone like Blood of Tyrants on the board or from Ed Vandenburg.

Good luck on getting it for less than DSA sells their items, I speak from experience.

Yep, it sure is a trial trying to get FAL parts manufactured, I have had a similar experience to Adam trying to get certain parts made in any qty, for some reason, folks just don't wanna know...breaks yer heart when you're an addict...

I'm interested too. A medium weight, Stainless Steel, .308 match barrel would be very interesting.

I agree!

I just priced a 1 1/4" x 28" .30 cal. barrel blank for a project and the best I could find was $126 (dealer) from The Montana Rifleman. (http://www.montanarifleman.com/)

Start thinking Lilja or Walther and the price doubles.

Kind of off the main subject but Brownell's has a low priced barrel similar to Midway and the Adams & Bennett. IIRC $75-80 is the dealer price.

I'd love to find decently priced Para (18") barrels, I have two projects I want to complete (a full-on Para and a Shorty Izzie). The $99 jobbies from DSA are my best bet so far (and they now have thier prices listed as POR), unless a group buy can get them cheaper.

I am interested in a good shooting new barrel for my IMBEL. Please keep me posted.

I would be VERY happy if I could pay $75 - $100 range, but that depends on what the barrel it is we are talking about.

I for one would love a group buy on GPG barrels. I could easyly use 6 barrels
if we could get threm even in the $150. range wwith gas block installed. Has anyone approached James about this.

I got my dad addicted. He wants to build one. I gave him my ZA lower (I'm going to get a DSA para lower for the upper that came in the kit; didn't need the lower) and now he needs a barrel/upper assembly. I'll talk to him about it when he gets home from work. So that means we'd be in for one or two barrels.
