I have been having the same problem as others on the gas system, and will take the advice given on how to correct it.

My problem is that I took apart the breech block and removed the firing pin. I found a jagged u shaped crack just above the rounded portion of the pin. I had not noticed this before, but I am concerned.

I have check with the dsa and tapco site, but I haven't seen any replacement firing pins. Any suggestions as to why or how I can prevent the problem in the future? Where can one find a replacement firing pin??

You can also get the 2 piece Israeli FP, fits all metric Fals and uses same spring. First used by Commonwealth countries on their inch versions due to breakage, adopted by the Israelis also. Various vendors sell them.

Thanks guys, on the two piece firing pin, what is the advantage over the one piece?

The Metric one-piece will interchange w/ the Israeli two-piece IIRC. There are several Metric one-piece Types (A-D). IIRC, the A is obsolete, and the others interchange. I don't have access to my reference right now.

The Inch two-piece will NOT fit metric bolts, and vice-versa.

The ABC (Australian, British, Canadian) Rifle Steering Committee changed from 1-piece to 2-piece following a scare related to punctured primers. For about Cdn$ 10 per rifle IIRC. The two-pice is less prone to failure at the neck.
