I headspaced my latest pupy and tryed my luck with kit shoulder .262. I`m very close to 1.6300, even bit short. I have only one smaler,.260. But I`m still to short for factory spec. I guess...
What is the consensus on locking shoulder set back? How much that was for you guys?

Send a message to one of the administrators. There are several threads on here which discuss this in glorious detail. If you can find them.

I have done several of them and have never got the .001 set back that some have had but the most I have ever heard of is .001 setback on one. hope this helps you.

If it won't close on a go-gage, you need to start over.

I popped a cherry on one Saturday. I measured it after 150 rounds. It might have set-back a half-thou.

of eight FALs,only two had any setback
usually just about a thousandth.
One rifle did however reauire a bigger LS after checking it
BTW FN's "go" is 1.6325 IIRC

I think I follow you: the kit .262 LS is too tight or just barely at 1.630 headspace. You hope setback will open things up enough to let you get away with using it.

I see three options.
1) Take a file to your .262 LS and thin it out a bit.
2) Use the .260 LS and figure on headspace around 1.6315 to 1.6325; actually, that's about perfect, isn't it?
3) In case I misunderstood you and have (2) above wrong, just buy the correct size and use what you already have either as spares or for your next rifle. Just skip a lunch or three and your new LS is paid for.

I really frown on filing down an LS, I'm worried about altering the angle or being inconsistent with the thickness, but that's me. Ha!! YMMV of course.

Thanx for all replies, special thanx for Radio...
Reading your post I realized, I got confused calculating metric to standard. The second shoulder I have is 6.64mm which is .261 not .260...
Actualy that .260 should put me on minimum factory spec of 1.6315 like you said.
I would hate to spend $25 for nothing, so I will give that .261 a shot or ten, hopping for some set back hehe... we will se what happen.

I can`t save on lunch money, as I`m brown bagging to save money at first place hehe... but thanx for the sugestion Radio :)
