ATN 5X33LU SCOPE ON QD PRO MOUNT W/MILLETT ADJUSTABLE HIGH RINGS

http://home.comcast.net/~cetme/ATNx24.jpg

Has anyone else used one of these scopes? I have one and like it so far. I did have some trouble attaching the .308 cam though. The instructions are rather vauge but you HAVE to turn the inner ring the cam tightens to "back" one notch or when you mount the .308 cam you can not make it to the 500 yard range mark. They ALL come with a .223 cam installed. I think it mentions that in the instructions in one sentence in a form that is not undestandable or does not make sense. I missed that step when trying to install mine but a fellow FAL files member helped me out and explained it in American English and all is well now.

The scope is made of some sort of aluminum or non-magnetic material but for some reason it is on the rather heavy side, weight wise. That is about my only gripe, the weight. Otherwise it has worked fine for me so far. The illumination is fine with 11 steps of brightness and uses the coin sized lithium battery that lasts 100 hours.

I liked the Butler Creek Blizzard see thru scope covers that pop up with a nudge of the finger on the edge of the flip part. I choose #7's. The back #7 fits the diopter rubber ring just fine and actually the rubber on the cover covers up the diopter gap too. On the front a #6 is too tight and a #7 is just a wee but loose. A black cable tie took care of that slight looseness and matches just fine! The Millett adjustable rings are NOT necessary, some ATN scopes do require adjustable rings, but not the 5x33 series. I just already had them and used them and they work just fine.

Even though ATN's literature states that ATN scopes adjust similar to the POSP type scopes, ie., move reticule to bullet hole when sighting in the scope, this is not the case with the 5x33mm series. They adjust just like our American scopes do, fire a shot and see where the bullet lands and then dial in on the knobs the direction and distance needed to get the bullet hole to the center. When changing ranges on the scope the reticule does not move like a POSP type of scope, the entire image moves up and down. No problem with this it is just another way of making a BDC type of scope.

A buddy of mine just ordered himself one he liked mine so well. 5 is a good all around power and 33 mm is big enough for a good bright sight picture but not too damn big to feel like you are packing a mini-Hubble. ACT Optics had them for $209 a couple of weeks ago, not a bad price at all for what you are getting. :D

Keep us posted as you rack up your round count.

I had one of these on a 308 FAL and it shot apart in relatively quick order (The brass ring in the front in < 1K rounds) and was sent back for a full refund.

I really like the scope though.

HOPING mine was a fluke...

Can you see the reticle w/ out it illuminated? What kind of waranty is implied/comes with the scope? I was just looking at one of these on SWFA, but can't determine if the reticle can be seen in daylight with out the illuminator on. Thanks for any feedback.

Looks like the ATN web site answered all of my questions. I wonder if the sope is water/shock proof. They don't mention it anywhere on their web sight. Looks like a cool and usefull scope....just wonder how it works out in the damper elements.

If you're interested in this scope you can usually find them on ebay for $175 or less.

The scope has a lifetime warranty. I have had to use that once. I think I may have damaged my first one because I did not back the inner ring back one notch before installing the .308 cam. After a few rounds the reticule actually started rotating on me. ATN replaced it promptly and a forum member enlightened me to the fact of the "back up one notch" deal before I got the second one and so far all has been just fine.

Yes you can see the reticule with out the illumination turned on. I did have to back out the eyepiece diopter so my glasses would focus the reticule and see the target as well. That is a very nice feature because we don't all see the same.

Pretty sure it is at least water resistant and fog proof. You do not go through all the hassles of designing and building this type of BDC scope and NOT make it fog proof and water resistant. If the fact they fogged up got out they would not sell any more of them so I bet it is nitrogen filled. It's a little on the heavy side weight wise but the optics are good and clear. I'd rather it be built like a tank and a little heavy than flimsy and light.

I got the same scope for Christmas. looks pretty good to me. I'm trying to decide what rings to use on my DSA tactical carbine.

82nd, a buddy of mine liked mine so well he got himself one and loves it. His is on a FAL too. He just is waiting on the GP mounts so he can dump or he'll probably shoot it, those damn TAPCO mounts with the screws. Of course his receiver looks like shit now too because of the screws.

HJ, I have one so I really do not need another one, but what don't you like about it other than the weight? I guess I have around 300 rounds shot through mine so far, at least the latest one that is.

To me, the reticle is kinda hard to pick up. Guess I'm just used to the big clunky Russian stuff.

HJ, When I first got mine I could NOT see the reticule at ALL! I thought they forgot to put it in! But when I backed out the diopter focus ring on the back, it came into view just fine. Have you tried that? I had to back mine out around 1/2" to get the reticule to show itself to me. Just a thought.

Diopter, huh? Man, it's been so long since I've messed with this scope, dunno if I ever tried. Will check it out.

Rob will PM you if I still want to sell....

They are pretty popular with the private purchases the troops are using in the sand box & the 'stan. One of my boy's over there said they aren't as rugged as the ACOG & ELCAN, but that they work pretty well and have sent quite a few of the scumbags to meet Allah. :shades:
