Always been interested in handmade knives, especially those made from scrap metal gleaned from other sources (railroad spikes, metal cable, axles, etc). Anyone have any homemade knives made from scrap metal that they would be willing to share with the crowd? It may be a good lesson to those that are interested in knife making, that good blades can be made from junkyard found metal, into something worth keeping.

I tried making a knife at the age of 14.....it looked like it too!
Now that I have a better understanding of metal working, it might be a good time to make a blade or two.
There are usually a few ads in SGN or Gun List for knife making supplies. Going with a "kit" might be a better way to start that starting from raw materials.
If you went the raw materials way, piecies of steel can be found at welding shops, spring shops, junk-yards, most anyplace that handles metal would proabably hook you up with some scraps of usable stock.
What would be really neat would be to make your own damascas steel, then carve out a blank.
Making knives isn't hard....makeing works of art is.
