So I know being in the military not keep your mags loaded for obvious reasons, but I have a desert vest, and a camo vest which can hold either mouse gun mags or Fal mags. Do you store your mags in the pouches or in cans? That way depending on the situation or climate you can grab what you need. So I guess my question is, where do you store your mags, cans or vest?

WHO sez you can't store your mags loaded?
Vest or cans.....I would decide on how fast I would need to retrieve them for immediate use.
I have some in pouches, some wrapped up in paper, some in boxes, some loaded, some not. some in plastic bins......you name it.
some just laying around gathering dust.

I am with Plain George. If you have quality mags leaving them loaded will not harm the springs. I keep some loaded and some not, I do not try to rotate them. When I shoot them empty I may reload them or I may load others, it just depends on the day. I have loaded in pouches and bags and unloaded in others. Most of the unloaded mags are in plastic tubs and closets. I believe the most important thing is clean and dry.

I agree whole heartidly. I keep about twenty magazines for each weapon. I would guess that about half are loaded. I have I think 16 loaded magizines in .50 cal ammo cans loaded with AP for my heavy barrel. others are kept loaded in M14 pouches, and in BAR bandoleers.

Personally, I keep a minimum of 20 mags per gun loaded.

I have chosen to upgrade my magazines where available and possible with Chome Silicon Springs, Wolff extra power springs where CS are not available.

For long-term storage in vests, belts, pouches etc. mostly rifle mags, I load them slightly below capacity, for example 30 rd mags generally loaded with 25 rounds. 25 rd Galils loaded 20 each, 20 ronders loaded with 15.

15 rd carbine mags are loaded with 15 rds, and handgun mags are loaded to capacity. The handguns don't stay loaded for long as I shoot three to four times a week, and I rotate my handgun mags.

That's my practice just FWIW, I'm NOT telling anybody they shouldn't make their own choices.

I chose to load less than capacity because back in my college days my truck gun was an AR-15 SP-1. I kept 24 thirty rounders, all colt factory, loaded to the top in pouches and had two of the same jungle clipped in the mag well. I didn't get to shoot as regularly in those days as I do now and sometimes those mags stayed loaded like that for 6 to 9 months, they all worked really well for about four to five years and one by one they failed all from spring fatigue.

I still have those mags today, now with magpul no cant followers and chrome silicon 40 rd mag springs. They are kept loaded with 25 rds each and are my favorite mouse gun mags.

I also have a large number of Adventureline 30 rd mags which never failed, but I've upgraded them as well.

That's why I do what I do. Good luck!

I have to pose the obvious question here.

What kind of scenario do ya'll have in mind that might require multiple loaded mags AND would evolve at such a rapid rate that you wouldn’t have time to load some mags.

I can load up a mag in a minute or two.

I can see having a couple loaded to dissuade a multi goblin encounter maybe but multiple loaded mags etc seems a little bit much to me, and borderline tinfoil hat.

A couple loaded mags with ammo in a can with a mag loader/stripper clips would seem to be be a little more practical IMHO.

When I get a chance to go shooting I do not to have to take the time to load mags. Besides it is just as easy to store ammo in mags as in boxes.

That is too funny, The other day me and the kids made tin foil hats and wore them driving around. They thought it was great.

I have 30 cal ammo cans with loaded mags and one 4 pocket bandolier with mags for each rifle as a grab and go item. Usually have a 4 pocket bandolier stuffed with mags laying nearby just for plinking/incase.

Hello,
I've been keeping my mags in chest pouch rigs. Having lived through two major riots here in the Los Angeles, Kalifornia. I don't think having multiple loaded mags is such a terrible idea.

I was working late just a block away when the LA riots started. Wondered what the noise was about, turned on a radio and found out. Having had my home burned out during the Watts riots, just like having them around.

You know those tin foil hats start to grow on you after awhile. I kind of like the look of mine. :)

I agree the the others. Quality magazines kept clean are fine loaded up. Good luck!

You must be talking about them new style fast zombies. The old slow ones could be dealt with by a swift butt stroke to the head, assuming you had a REAL rifle a-la' Garand, ought 3 or some such stocked with real wood. The world sure is getting complicated. Now in addition to fast zombies we have bird flu, mad cow, etc. that we did not have to worry about "back-in-the-day". Seems like loaded mags is the least of our problems.

Seriously, the only loaded mags I keep around are two for the Browning HP in the nightstand. Hopefully that will buy me time to stuff some buckshot in the 1100 if the borders are not sufficiently impressed with 26 rounds of Federal Hydra-Shock and various appropriate harsh words and hostile behavior. And, to be honest, I do have a fully loaded but spring not tensioned 75 round drum sitting in the safe for the AK. Hope I have time to wind the spring before the zombies bite me.

I agree with FfH. I have only a couple loaded mags for each weapon I own. I have tons of mags for each weapon, but only keep a couple ready to go.

I don't plan on bugging out to anywhere, so I can lollygag all I like. Besides, that's what all that ammo on strippers in bandos is for.

well.. I could imagine any number of scenarios where you might need to grab equipment and get moving in a hurry and it would be a whole lot easier that way..

There's just something comforting about a rifle case with 280 rounds already in the magazines, or 50 caliber can with 50 loaded UZI mag's. It does weigh more but l don't mind.

NO NO NO, plastic wrap ONLY works for gun-hating, big-government loving, tax and spend LIBERALS!!!!

The material and technique are BOTH VERY IMPORTANT!

It's well-known that liberals are most susceptible to mind control when they are sleeping, so, what liberals need to do is to gather a number of plastic laundry bags. The exact number is NOT important as long as they use at least three and if more than three always in multiples of three.

They also need at least three extra-large rubber bands and a length of duct tape. The classsic silver-grey gives the best results.

At bedtime they should place the bags inside each other to make a good air-tight membrane and then pull the open end over their heads being careful not to poke a hole in the bags with the point on top.

Then place the rubber bands around their necks over the plastic laundry bags to make a nice air-tight seal. Wrap the duct tape tightly over the rubber bands as insurance against failure of one or more of the rubber bands.

Only then will the liberals be able to sleep peacefully without fear that someone will creep into their heads overnight.

Bear in my, I have decided to "bug in" if at all possible... I consider "bugging out" to be an absolute last resort because the homestead WILL be lost, wether it be fire, flood, or over run. Now, speaking hypothetically, if I HAVE to bug OUT, then It will not be a snap decision, so I do not keep tons of mags loaded. My bug out/in gun is an AK-74M. I keep two mags loaded on the shelf in the safe. I've got a TON of ammo on charger clips with spoons, so I can have my other four mags loaded in about 2 minutes, at least. I would carry in the four cell mag pouch.

Inside the homestead, there is always a loaded S&W model 66 and a Makarov as well, so there's always something to grab if I have to grab something IMMEDIATELY as well. I CCW as well.

I've been going through a big turn around on my B.O.B here lately and rethinking it heavily.

Just my thoughts on the subject though.
