we live 90 miles from new orleans after hurricane kitrina they were told to pull all firearms off the shelfs until they get the ok from the feds..
well hurricane rita also visited us ..
this is hunting season in louisiana and you can not buy firearms or rifle or pistol ammo at walmart.
everyone needs to have a few ammo cans sealed with tape and labeled
shtf use only ..

Same shit happened in Bunkie, Mosby. I dunno about DeRidder/Leesville area where I am, though.
A little creepy, if you ask me.
And Walmart is the LAST friggin place I go for anything. I hope that's the general consensus around here.

If my Wal-Mart closed tomorrow, I would have ammo enough to last a years worth of fire fights.

Questions:

If you're keeping your ammo in ammo cans why are you sealing them with tape?

And:

Why are you concerned whether you can buy ammo, guns in the event of an emergency? Don't you already have a dedicated stash?

i run one peice of tape around a ammo can to remind be not open it just because i want to go shoot ..

yes i have ammo put aside , but a lot of the time i go to walmart and buy
.45 and .22 ammo to plink with ..

i only reload for the .45 in the winter cause the is no a/c in the reloading room ,so when thats gone i buy plinking ammo .

and of course i never have all the ammo i want .

I too have more ammo than I will probably reasonably use in the next decade, not to mention several TAPCO $89 imbel kits and well over a hundred magazines. But it makes me feel kind of warm inside when I think about it.

If all goes well, I will give each of my nephews a FWRA (not the poster), ten mags and a thousand rounds of Port. for their sixteenth birthdays.

Yep. Can't wait for a little "disruption" in US-China relations to send them into the crapper.

Sadly, tis true Mosby, tis true.

There's a wedding going on in my girlfriend's back yard this weekend and I've been hitched in the traces on my free time prepping things.

No shooty for Blackcat.
Pineville's about an hour and a half away, I estimate.

The Wal Mart nearest me has only a very limited selection of guns and ammo. The ammo is almost entirely shotgun ammo. I made the mistake of buying a stainless Ruger 10-22 in there one day. It took 3 clerks over and hour to process the transaction, and then they escorted me to the front door before handing me the box. They made me initial and date every single line item entry on the 4473, and in some cases I was initialling and dating an initial and date previously made. The 4473 ended up covered in inky scribbles from me initialling and dating everything and THEM initialling and dating my initials and dates. I never saw such a cluster f**k in my life.

The only visits I pay to the sporting goods area these days is to get a few more propane bottles.

Here in Vegas Wallmart rocks. Where else can you buy bullets, scotch, beer, motor oil and some food at 9:30 at night? And it ia all made where it should be in the US and Scotland. If you don't like Chicom crap don't buy it. Just read the label on where it was made and don't boycot a resource that you may need.

Wal-Mart has become a pain in the butt to purchase any firearms from. Not much selection, not much for competent help, no one really knows what they have in stock and they won't/can't check. I went through a bit cleaner version of what Dumpster Baby did a couple weeks back to buy one of the single shot Crickett .22 rifles. A little sharper clerk than he had and the process took about 1/2 hour including the walk to the front of the store with one of the managers. The clerk claimed he thought it might be a record. Not good !
Still the absolute best deal around on bulk .22 LR and shotgun shells. Whenever we make a run through New Hampshire we always stop at Wal-Mart. No sales tax. That is a savings of 7 % for us. I don't buy much else in that department anymore.

I've never bought a gun at Wal-Mart but I get all my 9mm ammo there because it's the only place that I know of that I can buy 100 rounds of Winchester FMJ for $9.99. I do admit that about 90% of the time the clerk gives me a weird look when I tell them to give me 5 boxes of ammo but other than this, everything goes smoothly.

Oh and PARA FN FAL is right, where else can you buy ammo, food, and anything that you might need for your car 24 hours a day? Not that I buy food there a lot but at least I can if I wanted to.

Academy has walmart BEAT on ammo and a lot of other places. I get my 9mm ammo there and it runs $3.86 a box. That is $77.20 a K , even with sales tax I can not order it that cheaply no way no how! Same thing on .22 ammo so cheap it is not funny. Every time I goto OKC I squirell some ammo away from Academy. And if you catch em on some type of clearance you can do real good on other calibers .

Just one more reason to make sure your stocked up on ammo, food, water and basic supplies and equipment to survive in a disaster/SHTF situation. If you are going to depend on the infrastruture (That may not be there) you and your family will suffer. Even if you see it coming (Like a hurricane) are you gonna be able to beat the rest to the grocery store shelves? Much less the local sports shops ammo? Stock up and cycle the inventory!

The Blazer 9mm, Thunderbolt 22lr bricks, and the Remington 12ga bird shot are the ONLY good deals on ammo at Academy. All the other ammo is disgustingly overpried. Youd figure if they can sell Blazer 9mm for $3.86/50 they could also sell Blazer 45 ACP cheap as well, huh? No way. Those bastards want $9 plus tax for 50 rounds of Blazer 45 ACP. I can get poly coat Wolf 45 ACP for $6.89/50 delivered and I can reload my own for a helluva lot cheaper than that. I'd be happier aboit it if I had a firearm that shot German rat pistol ammo, but as it stands I don't.

Ammo seems to be the easy thing to stock up on. Ammo and mags - i'd venture to say many of us have a good supply. It's food, water, etc that many of us would be caught short on. Guns and ammo, not a problem for most of us :).

Lest we forget....
During the Rodney King riots in L.A. firearms and ammo sales were suspended,
Imagine that, smelling the smoke and not being able to buy a couple boxes of shotguns shells. I read the righting on the wall then.
Saw it happen again with K-Mart on the morning of Sept 11,2001 They pulled all ammo and firearms off the shelf and stored them out of sight....Once again, what if I(we) felt the need to have the means to protect ourselves?
And now to hear of it after a hurricane.
I know that it's just preaching to the choir, but that's all the reason I need to stay stockpiled :)
Don't be afraid to squirrel away a little extra for others that arent that insightful.
After all, a firearm without ammo is just a fancy club.

Way back in"68 when the feds started th most recent spate of efforts to save us from ourselves,(disregarding the 1935 machinegun thing), they suspended ALL sales of EVERYTHING , especially ammo. A few months without even the ability to get 22 ammo. It happens almost every time there is any kind of civil/ natural problem. BE PREPARED!! Hindsight dictates foresight for the future. You owe it to your loved ones. Regards, Dave.

Man, the ATF is going to have a field day with that one if they ever get audited. I have been fussed at more than once for sloppy writing on a 4473. Hell, time before last, right after the new white 4473s came out, I bought a pistol and filled out the new form. I put N/A in one of places that didn't apply to me. The guy behind the counter fussed at me for not leaving it blank!

Serves the idiots right!

No kidding. At my current rate of expenditure, I have fifteen years worth of ammo, but only fifteen days worth of food and perhaps fifteen hours worth of water.

Hell, I needed spraypaint for painting some parts, and I got off work at midnight. The idiots at walmart wouldn't sell me any spraypaint. Walmart has some goofy political policies. No paint sold after 10pm. Curbing gang tagging, drug manufacture, etc, etc. Allowed so many lithium batteries, vics nasal inhalors, etc. etc.
It's kind of like, did I loose my mark of the beast? Well, dammit. Here's my smiley face sticker back.

Tienamen Square in the Walmart parking lot, any one?

Here's a good walmart story.
Does anyone remember when Walmart sold handguns? They stopped selling when the Brady Bill went into effect. I also noticed that in order to stay PC, they never went back to selling them when everything worked out for over the fbi phone checks.

But at that time, I was pissed off about the bill and at Walmart's vaginal knee jerk reaction to it, and in front of the gun counter and 15 or so people, I popped off, " You know the only mistake that John Henkly made? - He didn't use a .45." (Not that I disliked Reagan so much, but it would have been better if they didn't have the vegitable in the wheelchair for a poster boy, with a liberal witch for a wheelchair motor. ) Someone said, "You can't say that!", Hell, it would have solved the problem, wouldn't it?

There's nothing worse than a vaginal-knee-jerk-reaction to please the liberal masses - me.

I'd love it if the SHTF! The first thing that i know would happen is a few Liberal friends would show up looking for help. Which is okay. I probably would help them. Two heads are betther than one, etc and they'd probably be an asset to me. But i suppose we've all reveled in the what if TSHTF games..........

BTW, has anyone noticed how anti gunners are quick to turn to you in times of problems with the question "do you have a gun"? I'm serious, that seems to be the first question out of an anti gunner when it looks like there might be trouble.

Friend of the wife asked about borrowing a gun a few years back. Breaking up with bf - she was worried he was going to break into her apt or something. I told her you really have to feel your life is threatened before you can shoot. Like does he have a weapon, etc? Lots of problems to get cleared if you dust the bf in your apt. But the whole time i was thinking - she's very anti gun, very pro gun control. Oh well...........

Also, she was not the first big Liberal anti gunner to turn to me when there might be trouble and without a hint shame or embarasement implore me "do you have a gun"? They're the first ones to start shooting in a situation but otherwise boy oh boy it's the party line "i don't want a gun in the house".

I had a friend who was VERY against my "paranoid war-mongering"... and then Cincinnati erupted into riots that lasted weeks. When some of teh rioters showed up in his neighborhood, he called me to ask If I had a gun he could borrow. My response?

"You don't need a gun. Guns are for idiots that can't calm down adn speak calmly, rationlizing everythign out, because nothing good comes of violence."

Those were his words to me, and I just repeate them back to him.

"ha ha, very funny." he says.
"Yeah, I think it's hilarious." I reply.
"Real Mature."
"Sure is," I say, "'Cause they only let adults go through that backgrgound check for a gun... sure is a slow process too... you think you could go down to teh store and get one quick enough? I mean, is it mature and responsible of me to give a gun to soeone who hasn't passed a background check?"
"OK, fine, you've made your point... but can you just let me borrow one? please?" he begs.

It was the "please" that really broke it for me.

"Nope... but I've got a couch you can sleep on... see you in a few?"
He stayed a week... the week after, he bought a mossburg 500.

Now he shoots with me on the weekends!!

I would not have given him the gun, Good job! I can't tell you how many people have told me they were coming to my house if something happened, That was when i stopped trying to convince them to get guns and kept my mouth shut. It is to my benifit to not have many people know I have guns.

Redbear you did good on your part. Alot of people at work were teasing me about having guns. To them the M-16 was only somthing they had to shoot every year to stay in the military. After they deployed and got shot at a few times they stopped teasing me and one of them bought a Beretta 96. We're chairborne so we have time to follow what happened in New Orleans. Prior to the hurricane I told them exactly what was going to happen. They didn't believe me until after the hurricane hit and everything started happening in order just like I said. It was also a wake up to them that it could happen anywhere in the US.
