I have heard of trees exploding when it gets hot but have never seen it. I can't imagine that lightning did that either. I'm sure there would have been burn marks. Odd. Maybe it was just one hell of an elk.

Odd.
All of the lightning strikes I have seen show some scorching or blackness.

Aliens???

That looks like lightning to me. My understanding is that the heat from the lightening boils the sap and the resulting rapid steam expansion blows everything to bits. Makes sense to me.

Yup, very much a lightning hit, often you will see NO burn marks.

Also seen trees in forest fires vaporize, when they do that, you get the F out of there and call in air attack.

+1 for the chupacabra.

I've been struck (stricken?) twice indirectly and once straight-on.
No shit. I now prefer to be inside during a storm.

ELK-ZILLA!

But seriously folks, when I was just a lad, we visited my uncles ranch in Nebraska. They get those thunderstorms just about every night at certain times in the summer. One night, lightning struck a tree about 75 feet from the house. There was a bright pink flash and one heck of a boom! Next morning I looked at the tree and saw the same thing, wood splintered to bits but no burn marks.

ONCE was enough for me.

I have seen exploded trees, and telephone poles that had irregular strips cut out of them from top to bottom.

Most definatly a lightning strike. I live in Florida (lightning capitol of the USA). I am a firefighter (19 years now). I have responded to many lightning strikes to trees. Many times there are no burn marks. Lightning is diffrent every time. Sometimes a direct hit will show almost no damage, other times it can blow a tree to pieces. Sometimes starting fires, sometimes not.

Nope Splatt....it was where the alien transporter beam was aimed at you....but they missed. Apparently they have to change the batteries in the anal implant they left with you last time around....   :bigangel:

Seen similar lightening strikes here.....back where I grea up I recall one HUGH ghost gum getting slit right down the middle....just now lightening is not my problem ....just gale force winds that are downing trees all around and left us without power for most of yesterday.

I hope you've got a woodstove,
that there's one tree that won't
need splittn' or dryn'.
Some guys have all the luck:rofl:

I was camping with my family a few years back and had lighting strike a 12" spruce that was about 30' from us. Blew it up just like that picture. Filled the air with pine pitch smell. We were sitting at a pinic table under the tarp I always set up and it gave us quite a start.

Wait until you see Ball Lightning floating around and stop, then make a 90 degree turn and disappear, or riding on top of power lines for about 500 yard and shoot straight up out of sight. Freaky S**t. No kidding.
