There are a few of us who are Amateur Radio Operators. Our services are needed. The National Traffic System is woefully overloaded. If any hams can check in to an NTS net and take traffic to pass it would be a great service to those affected by Katrina.

If you have never passed a piece of traffic, do not worry. Just a bit of listening to the procedures will make it very clear. Also, simply checking in and telling the Net Control Station that you would like to pass local traffic, but are inexperienced, will result in an immediate response of a mentor and a great opportunity to do what ham radio is all about.

Faltitude: Glad to hear it !

jm951: MOST traffic nets are on HF. However, there are a few local ones on 2m. I (or you can as well) will go to the ARRL website and do a search on nets. Any net listed with the League, as most traffic nets are, will be listed with freqs and day/time.

Two guys in my club are net control for the traffic nets. They told us last night that health and welfare are not being accepted on the traffic net. That is being handled by Saturn. AT least that is what I think they said.

I would help but I don't have HF here at the house.

That was the last word I got, gunnut. H&W is officially being handled by SATERN. Seems a few HF nets are still taking routine, H&W traffic, but not in or out of the affected areas.

I copied some traffic in the wee hours two nights ago. I could not hold on to the exchange word for word, but could tell the headers from the signatures. The two ops were running bugs at over 40 WPM,,easy.
