View Full Version : Who else will really hurt without"certain"comfort items & how to cope

This is a subject that I have thought about many times and have faced on occassion with some difficulty.

For me, my MAIN comfort item is iced tea. Now, I can, in an extreme situation, drink it without ice but....
On my recent trip up north, I had a hard time finding anything that resembled iced tea. The only convenience store bottle tea I can stand is Red Diamond and that is not widely available and has about the same shelf-life as milk. Other than that, I am forced to pack an "ice tea kit" which includes tea, sugar, water, storage vessel, small saucepan, and spoon to stir with.

Granted, I could do without everything except the most basic essentials to survive on but it would be rough without my tea.

How about you?

My sweet tooth would suffer as I'm candy nut. Lemonheads, preferrably.

I'm a beer or coffee man but having family in Texas, I know how common iced tea is there. Now, if someone could market iced tea like they do coffee at Starbucks, they'd make a million. Upscale hoighty-toighty designer tea that costs 5 times what it's worth and hordes of customers conditioned into needing it.

Deodorant, I guess.

All the plans I ever made for bugging out in case of disaster included bringing my closest friends and dependents, as all are competent, level headed individuals. With guns.
Lately though, my dad has undergone complete kidney failure, and is doing mandatory 3 time a week dialysis. That's my single and only concern these days. I'll sleep on the ground and eat snakes for months when Katrina II comes knocking a little further north- but I worry to hell for my old man.

I would be very unhappy (to say the least) without cigarettes and hot coffee.

Air, water and food. In that order.

Red Diamond sweet tea is pretty good. I recently discovered it here.

In my case it would be my CPAP machine.

Something positive air pressure IIRC. An air mask and pump used while sleeping to alleviate sleep apnea.

CPAP = Continuous Positive Airway Pressure.

Sleep Apnea (includes diagrams and photo of a CPAP machine) (http://www.lhsi.net/sleep_apnea.htm)

Lemonheads, preferrably

Dayum Joe ! The last week of mess & maintenance in boot camp, I got to go help in a warehouse that kept boots, sateens, and other uniform issue items. There was a L/Cpl. WM that I worked with. She gave me two tins of lemonheads (shaddup you heathens !) on the sly. I woulda married her for that bit of charity !!!!!

What would I hurt for most ?

malt, hops, and yeast.

not being able to brew my own beer would be a bit of a bummer. I guess I just need to bottle a lot of imperial porter and imperial stout, more bang for the bottle you know....

On week before boot camp garduation smokers got a smoke, non-smokers got a piece of hard candy. Pogey bait all of it!

I suppose I could get by without the sweets. Swore off Coke, I was a junkie for that. Switched to instant iced tea, and quit that. Now it's water and nothing else. I quit biting my nails this year cause I figured it was about time. My wife's amazed at the self discipline I can exhibit, but she's pissed that I won't clean out the garage.
