I am new to this and have most of my experience with AKS and others. I bought a kit because of the looming of the end... I was wondering if there were any Georgia builders with some of the tools and the experience to show me how its done. I know I can just send it off, but the experience is half the fun.

There are several of us around. I'm down in SE GA. Getting ready for 7 AK builds - still buying the tools and other parts - US parts and Receivers.

Got all the tools for FALs, will finish out my last two remaining kits as soon as I can get a couple of DCI receivers. May have to go with entreprise....

I know all the info is here but...Can somebody tell me what the best moderate priced receiver is? Seen a lot of stuff on Imbel, but also saw they were backordered and questionable on arrival. What would you recommend.

Whate is the most const effective US parts configuration....I bought a stg-58 kit from DSA.

Here in Riverdale where you need a FAL. I'm pretty new here also, just about 6 months out of Dallas TX., what a difference. I've done about a dozen, got the tools, and a ton of parts. The only problem is I'm in an apartment now and don't have a place to build. I 'just need to find where to shoot on the south side of town open durring the week.

Woodie, congrats on the move! If you get down my way in the savannah area, I've got plenty of room for FAL building.

FN74 has as much room as the WWII jeep allows in the garage! Hate to see how small it is going to get once he gets his own Sherman tank! *G*

FN74 - Imbel receiver is on the way...debating building an Imbel 18" with fixed stock or G1 ...decisions, decision, decisions.

BTW - dealer is ordering 4 AK Armory USA (Global Trades) receivers this week. 3 are coming in 5.45, and one in 7.62mm.

Ordering the vise this week. should have it by next weekend or the weekend after.

Ok..enough building questions........................we need a great outdoor range in the low country GA / SC area! Any suggestions?

I'm in Dawsonville...about 50 miles North of ATL.

I hear good things about this range...South River (http://www.southrivergunclub.com/)

I second stimpsoncat's recommendation of South River. 50, 100, 200 covered rifle ranges, with benchs, if so inclined, and 300 open rifle range. 11 pistol bays, bullseye range and trap and skeet. Open 7 days a week. I shoot IPSC there, but also use the rifle range for my rifle shooting. There is a locked gate and members have the gate combination and can come and go as they please. I'm sorry I can't help you with the build. I have a DSA SA58 Medium weight rifle that shoots very well.

Don't hesitate to use Gunsmith Tony. He does a great job.

Also for those of you looking for a range, don't forget about the WMA range called CLYBEL or Charlie Elliot, located in Mansfield (just past Covington). It's free to use and has a 100 yd range, but is closed on Sundays and be sure to read the range rules.

Old Blind Squirrel, how long have you been a member at South River. I've never seen you there (that I know of), but I haven't been much the past year (that's changing now though). I was there last week, testing out two new STG builds. I've only seen one other person in at least four years there with a Fal (about 6- 8 months ago). He had a DSA camo rifle, and was shooting with what I believe was his son. I remeber, because they were waiting in the parking lot for me to finish up on the 300yd line. Any chance that was you?

I'm in the Gainesville area also. One completed build, and slowly acquiring parts for two para builds now.

1. I am in Peachtree City, about 20 to 25 minutes from Riverdale.
2. I can recommend Autrey's Armory on Fayetteville. http://www.autreysarmory.com

I haven't built a FAL (yet) but first got to fire and clean my brothers' R1 at the age of 13, on full auto. Later after being issued R1/FN FALs, we were the first grop to get the Galil/R4. We still got to use the R1's for the annual shooting competitions where we shot up to 1,000m (1,100 yards) metal sights.

My AK build is still a sore subject :)

I saw over at gunco that a few of the guys were being whiny and fighting over a $40 harbor freight drill press that was left there. I would surely give any of them mine for the help that I got and will get on building. Too Bad. SOme people just don't keep things in perspective.

I have been travelling alot for work. Actually ordering kits from the road :)

I have 4 or 5 that I want to build up, but still gathering parts etc.

I also have an STG-58 that I wnat to build up.

I am in Atlanta but also have no FAL specific tools and I also need a good receiver. But I will be trying to build soon when I get every thing set. Maybe some how we can work together or share some tools.
