View Full Version : Baby crow, a happy ending...

The wife brought home a baby crow that was kicked out of its nest about a month or so ago. Yesterday we let it go. The wife is not too happy about it, but a local crow family adopted it right away. We now see him trailing the parents of two (now three) and getting fed and taught how to find food. With crows it does not always work that way, sometimes local crows will chase and heckle a new one until it just goes away or dies. Its a relief to see it has been accepted into a family and group.

Nice, crows can go beyond tribal bonding.
Men are better at this, perhaps the animals look to us some.
"Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them".
Are ye not much better than they? Matt 6:26

If you love something, set it free. If it returns, cherish it. If it doesn't return, hunt it down and kill it.

Around here we have THOUSANDS ..... of crows which gather downtown, around the square , Courthouse and College, They make a terrible noise all night long and crap on everything. I don't know that I would go to the trouble of rescuing one. At dawn the flocks head out and feed on everything, I've seen a flock of crows fighting a cowardly fight with a red tail hawk over a rabbit the hawk killed. Once airborn, the hawk messed up a couple of crows and the fight was over, HAWK won.
I've caught crows in my trash and back yard, If you look carefully, there is always a crow way up high watching over all the other crows, I took a watch crow out and he spiraled to the ground, When the rest of the group missed him, ALL hell broke loose, there was a bunch of crows calling and before I knew it, there were hundreds of crows cawwing flying around and raisng hell in a one block area. They found the dead watch crow and then really went off for about an hour.
By the way, A buddy going through a divorce stuck a bumper sticker on his truck about, "IF YOU LOVE SOMTHING, SET IT FREE, IF IT RETURNS, IT'S
YOURS FOREVER. IF IT DOESN"T COME BACK, HUNT IT DOWN AND KILL IT."
He found himself in court with a order of protection on him and the judge ordered him to surrender all his guns to the high Sheriff. The JUDGE also ordered him to remove the bumper sticker.

In Michigan there is a law that pays a 10 cent bounty for every dead crow you bring to city hall. I have always wanted to show up there demanding dimes just to screw with them.

Where nature has been corrupted by man choosing to live in Close- Pack (Like on a SlaveShip) wierd shit happens.
A shithole city, is unnatural.
Why live in a shithole?
In nature all you gotta do is pray for rain, and all you need occurs if water happens,if you have not experienced this, I suggest you are ignorant, not stupid, ignorant.
The "Dime up thier ass" thing is a nice touch.
Sorry but I lived out there long enough to question many of societies values.
I can't imagine the horror, shock the Indians went through.

I recently went to the tourist trap called Gatlinburg, TN, and got dragged by the wife to Dollywood. In the park, they have an eagle rehab center, and keep the birds they deem "non-returnable" in an aviary on site for everyone to view. They have about a 30min "show" on birds of prey that I found quite interesting, letting a hawk, owl, falcon, and some mexican bird fly over the crowd on several occasions. One of the points made by the host was that birds of prey have exceptional hearing, but their sense of smell is almost nonexistent. Contrary to popular belief, small birds returned to the nest are not shunned by the parents because of the human smell. It really makes no difference to them.
The narrator had a son on Iraq, so he made the eagle presentation very patriotic, and he brought out some very beautiful birds during his part of the show.
There is one eagle there named Osceola who has only 1 wing. One of the people involved in the rescue group made a sling for him and took him hang gliding. The pics are on the video at the end of the presentation. Looked like a damn happy bird to me.
I hunt and fish every chance I get, but how somebody could shoot an eagle, hawk, owl, etc is beyond me. Beautiful birds to watch fly.

Right after I write this touchy/feely -crows are OK stuff- I start getting woke up at first light by one of the crow sentries, he stationed himself in the old oak 20 feet from my bedroom window! Craawk! Craawk!....
Startled awake, my first thoughts were,"Wheres my Crossman, I'm gonna drop that SOB"

You want crows? Come up here. I've got several mature Maple trees around me and the crows must think they are the shit to hang around in. Must be because they are so tall that the crows can see for some distance.
I've had 60-70 crows in them at one time. Noisy bastards!

Believe me, I dont want any more damn crows. LOL. But fixing and releasing a wounded or abandoned wild animal is a challenge I will always accept (unless its a moose or something). For some reason I like the challenge. I've helped out mice, gophers, an owl, robbins, a duck, a great blue heron, a few squirrels, some snakes, and a few others over the years. Maybe I should've been a zoologist.

You know, that was a damn nice thing to do for that bird. You gotta wonder what it was thinking while they were airborn. Kudo's to the rehab guys.
