Has anyone put toether a FN49?

I am looking a getting a parts kit without trigger group.
and putting a parts gun together. anyone have any experience in this.

If I did this I would like to add a new barrel. anyone here ever rebarreled a fn49 / SAFN? is it easier/more difficult tha a FAL?

Anyone else interested in tryling? If I try should I host a build page?

If this kit is from Hunter's Lodge or CHL, you might want to think twice about buying from them. Many have have very bad experiences with them. Do a search on this board and others. As for parts, getting the parts you need will be very difficult. In the end it might be cheaper to just buy one that is already built.

Let us know what you do.

What Vince said.
For a reality check here are three places that list some FN49 parts. They are getting scarcer and more expensive. The condition of some parts may be less than the best and not all that are listed may not be available.

Springfield Sporters (http://www.ssporters.com/parts/FN%2049%20Parts%20Listing.htm)

Numrich (http://www.e-gunparts.com/productschem.asp?chrMasterModel=1410z1949)

Northridge (http://www.northridgeinc.com/fn_fal.htm)

I was looking at the Hunters lodge kit.

I did not find a thread could you point me to one or recap the difficulties encountered?

Basically, they over describe and over charge. What you order will not be what they said it is. At least that is my experience. Go post on gunboards.com and see what they say.

Here is some "lite" reading on the subject of the FN-49 "kits" - otherwise known as rusty "box-o-parts."

http://www.falfiles.com/forums/search.php?s=&action=showresults&searchid=628596&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending

Be aware that some FN-49 parts are just not available and completion may, in some cases, be impossible. Then, even if completion is possible, you still have to deal with the headspace issue and with whether you will want the rifle refinished. At the end of the project ... you WILL wish that you had bought a complete rifle .....
