I have had a terrible time with groundhogs under my trappers cabin. Those suckers have eaten their way onto the porch and ate my life size standup John Wayne that I kept in the window. So...I declared war. I started shooting them.
Then... one fatefull day I got one out of the corner of my eye, running for the cabin. I spun and fired (.45 Colt lever action) the slug bounced a foot short of him then ricocheted up and right into his side. Then he crawled under the cabin and died. I had to live with his rotting body for the next 3 months until winter came and froze things up a bit.
So saturday I walk out the door and see a baby ground hog. About 7" long,
cute as all get out. I walk over and pick him up and scratch him behind the ear.
He gets all lovey with me. I put him down and walk away to the other side of
the cabin....and there is his brother (or sister) and I pick him up and scratch him behind the ear and he get all lovey with me too.
I couldn't kill them!
Sunday I get out there and there they are! laying in the sun. I walk over and give them both a couple of the Ol scratch behind the ear. I thought they were going to turn over so I could scratch their bellies:eek:
I couldn't kill them again!!
Turning into an ol softy I guess.:biggrin:
I might cook them up some supper next time. I know they like the farmers bean field and cardboard
