I found some 30-06 rounds, marked TW-54 loaded with the Black tip AP projectile. Anybody know if its corrosive or not? Any value?

Thanks in Advance!

NonCorrosive, good shooting ammo. I would put its value at 30 to 50cents per round in shooting quantity lots.

Thanks ammolab, Got to digging around and found 160 rounds of the stuff on Garand clips with one cloth bando as well. Used to shoot an 03, but it got moved out in a gun deal..........and now I find the ammo again! :rolleyes:

Might have to list on the market for trade or something.

Thanks Again.

I have a side question along the same lines. I recently read in my Military Gun Supply flyer that some of the korean 30.06 that was/is sold on garand clips may have corrosive primers anyone have further info on that??

Supposedly, the Korean .30-06 in Garand clips in bandoleers is corrosive while the ammo in 20 round boxes is not. Made in two different arsenals, the boxed stuff made by Pan Metal.

I have shot a bit of the boxed ammo and it shows no signs of being corrosive. I haven't bought any of the clipped ammo.

The KA is indeed corrosive. AMHIK. Or not.

TW stands for Twin Cities Ordnance Plant. They might have still been making corrosive ammo in 1954.

As per the Korean ammo, look at the headstamp.

KA = Korrosive Ammo

PS = Pretty Safe

I'm not sure about all of the .30 cal. M2 production, but, generally speaking, 1953 is considered to be the turnover year (corrosive to non-corrosive). To the best of my knowledge, all the M2 AP Ball ammo loaded in 1953 was non-corrosive. I know that I have shot LC53 and SL53 AP (originally loaded on Garand clips) that was non-corrosive.

Standard M2 Ball is less clear, since some manufactured in 1953 might be corrosive and some non-corrosive... I don't know if any TW54 M2 Ball was corrosive, but suspect most was non-corrosive.

There have also been a couple of production runs of "match" ammo produced much more recently (in the 1960s and perhaps even more recent than that) that have been loaded with corrosive primers.

Does anyone have a link to the known dates for the corrosive to non-corrosive turnover in production, and the couple of exceptions to the general dates?
