I get 5 gallons of blood from the local packing house for free.Bring this home and work far from the house!I have a 4x4 sheet of plywood with 1/2 roud trim all the way around it.This makes a 4ftx4ft pan about 1/2 inch deep.Pour in about 2 and 1/2 gallons of blood. Then cover with one bag of brown sugar, just sprinkle it all over and one container of non-iodized salt.Let this sit in the sun for about 4-5 day until it looks pretty dry.Cut in managable pieces and turn over.Again brown sugar and salt, youdon't need as much, about 1/2 what was used the first time.Let dry for 4-5 more days. Then cut into1/2" x 2 " pieces and store in a good 1 to 2.5 gallon plastic bucket.I pour a little of the other blood on the fresh made bait too keep it from drying too much.
This is a very effective bait. I sometimes chum with a little fresh blood say a half pint. This is not just a small fish bait.Drift the main channel on a resivour and prepare to do battle with some big blue cats. This is super effective bait, some work, but worth it!

Important! Pork blood will NOT work!I use beef or chicken blood. Pork has an enzyeme catfish don't like.

I'll have to try the brown sugar next time. Your recipe is almost the same as my "liver jerky" bait.

Man, it's that time of year to start having fish fries, so that means the freezer needs stockin'. With your recipe, it shouldn't be any problem.

That is funny.....I have never tried pork or had any reason to. I have heard of people using rotten weiners as bait. Unless they spcifically used all beef weiners then they were using pork.

Doug it just seems to be the blood they won't bite. We've tryed it when we butchered ourselves.Didn't work.I read an article inIn-Fisherman that stated pork blood has an enzyeme that turns off catfish. It was written by Rene Shumway the preimer blood bait man now in catfishing.I believe it.
