View Full Version : Mag pouches for 20 round M16 mags?
March 03, 2005, 09:15
Are there any pouches out there that fit the 20 round M16 magazines?
I have a bunch of the USGI M1956 pouches, but am looking for something more modern, and modular.

Heck, Devildog, I would just like to find two or three 20 rd mags for my recently acquired mousie. It is almost exactly like what I dragged around on the grinder back to '75. Needs the trapdoor stock, tho'. Also would have the fwd assist to be correct, but I always found that to be a useless protuberance.
I'll send a mail to my bud, slikrickabn. He and I have a mutual friend who dabbles in the Milsurp auction scene.

Joe, I will check to see how 2 or 3 of them fit into the Tactical Tailor .308 mag pouches, they should be ok. Owl, PM me if you need a couple, I am sure we can work some sort of deal amicable to all with reasonable shipping.

zillions of them very cheap if you don't mind used, serviceable.
The surplus joint around the corner from my office usually has these and the 30-rd flavor in a commingled dusty pile. I bought several. Each holds four 20-rd mags. Attach to gear via ALICE clips.

Joe, I checked a little while ago and three of the 20 rounders fit very nicely into one of these Tactical Tailor pouches:
I had them sitting side by side, rounds up and pointing away from the body, fit very well. And all kinds of modular. Let me know if you want to borrow one or two to try out.

For 20 rd mags themselves, Brownells is now making AR-15 magazines. They should be pretty decent.

A couple of years ago Bushmaster was making 20 rounders with a small curve, very similar to Brownells. I was at an NRA Rifle Instructor course and a couple of guys had brand new Bushys with the new 20 rounders, nothing but problems in all of the mags in every rifle we tried them in. A couple of calls to the factory and all were to be replaced gratis. Call me silly, but I prefer my 20 round mags in any caliber straight, like my Vodka :D Just an observation, YMMV.
