My two favorites are the Katadyn pocket filter and the MSR Water Works / Mini Water Works filters. I also use a sweetwater pre-filter on either filter to pre-filter the larger particles and such.

I've always had good luck with PolarPur. It is a nearly everlasting bottle of Iodine solution.

I agree with Jen. MSR Waterworks or Miniworks. I used a Pur for a while, but it clogged too easily. The Miniworks is current issue in the Amphibious Raids and Recon Division of the U.S. Marine Corps. That should attest a little bit to its usefulness and durability.

I love my PUR Hiker. Great filter.

I prefer my drinks cold filtered and prepackaged in 12 oz cans. But in case you run out (and this would not be grounds to return home) I would go with the Guardian filter.
