What methods do you guys use to crown your barel and what type of crown seems to work best for you?

The Gary Jeter method works great for me. Marble wrapped in sand paper and about twent minutes of elbow work in front of the tube. It reall can't be beat for SIMPLE, SIMPLE, SIMPLE!

Ask a hundred people and get a hundred answers but the 11° target crown seems to be the most excepted crown. That's the crown I cut on my muzzles.

That would be a combined variant of the booger-pickin' method and the ben-wa method.

I usually just go with the pure booger method on account of folks say I lost all my marbles.

Idsubgun,
How do you cut that 11 degee crown? Lathe, I am assuming. Do you use a proprietary cutter, or something else?

I use my lathe and set the compound rest at 11°, or I use the 11° hand cutter w/pilot from Brownell's. I'd rather use the lathe as it gives a nicer finish without chatter, but with practice you can make the hand cutter look pretty nice as well.

Link to Brownell's cutter. (http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=628&title=79%5c+MUZZLE+CROWNING+CUTTER)

Facing and crowning tools, along with pilots for various cailbers, are available from Brownell's. You can then do the job by hand. I borrowed the facing and crowning tools from a local NM FALer.

a related question... when someone speaks of an 11* target crown, is that 11* from parallel to the bore, or from perpendicular to the bore?
