Sling advice

I'm looking for a good sling for a 16" barrel FAL. I got one from DSA that I like, but it's too narrow for the sling swivels. I'd like one that is the correct width. I like the old canvas ones, but I'd take a newer nylon one (the only place I want leather is on my wife's wrists and ankles) in the correct width and I prefer black. Any help would be appreciated rather than ordering a bunch of slings until I get the right one. Thanks, Andy

I have a USGI M14 canvas sling on a full size Imbel. It looks and fits great.

Is your barrel chopped from the muzzle to 16"? If so, the USGI sling would work well. Fulton Armory sells them in black and OD.

I have a couple of Rooster slings on order. One for my carbine FAL, one for an AR.

A friend of mine gave me a generic Uncle Mike's 1-1/4" black nylon sling and it's okay for now. The 1-1/4" still seems a little narrow to me. I'll keep my eyes open at gun shows and see what I can find. Thanks, Andy

I prefer Spectre (formerly CQB Solutions) slings on my FALs. Excellent features & construction.

Try this guy in South Africa: capeboer@intekom.co.za and see if he has come across any more of the new/surplus canvas LM4 slings. I've bought several of the 1.5" versions and like them very much. capeboer has had an ad or two in the market place where you might still find a pic and description. I also just got an original South African R1 FAL sling from him - it's a very wide 2 1/4". It's like the R4 slings he had but with the full width sling attachments - and the only one I've ever seen, btw.

Give Rooster a shout, he will custom make a regular sling for you. Most of the stuff he makes is tactical but it shouldn't be much of a problem to do what you are talking about. His material is an inch and a half. Should be what you are looking for. He can make it in OD Green, Black, or Tan. I know he can do this, I have inside info. If you are a big guy he will even add extra length. Also he is a great guy to do business with.
