I just picked up a few of these for myself and a few friends with the intention of using them in 3-gun. I was just wondering if the puny M16 mag pouches can be made to work for FAL mags? These are Gen 1 LBVs with the two slanted pockets on each side of the chest and two lower pockets.
If not, no big deal as I have gobs of FAL pouches I can figure a way to attach somehow.
We finally got sick of having to have all our gear on our belts...sheesh!

you may be able to fit one FAL in each of the outer mag pouches, but its a no go on the inner pockets.

I got tired of the darn surplus, lets make it work webgear but my budget just wouldnt support a high speed gear 308 lifestyle. I think I may have gotten lucky.

Sword - This could be the same gear, cat. no. 207124 at MajorSurplusNSurvival.com
They show it as $79.95, but with your extras you got a better deal, if it is the same gear. They also show a lot of different pouches for it.

Looks exactly the same the noslip shoulder pads were more OD on mine but it may just be the picture. I went Coyote brown. Thanks for the link! I believe for those on a budget it may be a better than stop gap option. I believe if you are purchasing surplus as your only viable financial option this is the way to go.

M-14 mags will fit in them, and FAL mags are about the same size as '14 mags. they should fit in them. you'll only get one per in them and it takes some doing, but they'll fit in there.

Cut out the dividers and two will fit in the 30x M-16 pouches, easy.

Random,
I never asked you to visit my site, nor look at any of my gear in comparison, and what I have stated is my opinion only based on limited gunshow display experience with this particular setup. Having both the Blackhawk and EAGLE MLCS kits - I can say that this kit does not compare.
In short, lighten UP and move on - your response is the kind I'd expect from someone who may have bought one of these setups only to find it lacking and resents anyone having said anything along the same lines.
Yes my gear takes upwards of 6-8 weeks to build and ship out, BUT each single piece is form fitted to a particular magazine type and verified for function before leaving my basement. If you dont like that, hey no problem with me, as I have had no customer complaints about my gear in the two years that I have been building gear. If this is not to your liking then there isnt much that I can do for you. FWIW, most orders go out in less than 4 weeks, but since you're not visiting my site then I really dont have to sell you on that either.
If any moderator can contact me and let me know what the contribution amounts are, I'd welcome that. Thanks!
As for the original question of this thread - In my years of collecting, I have noticed a fair degree in variation between pouch size, construction, and materials used between the TLBV (1st generation vertical pockets solid body panel) and the ETLBV (2nd gen slanted pockets and mesh body).
I'll dig up a TLBV later and get some pics taken.

Here is a TLBV panel in the middle of a modification job - the attached pocket is the inboard single mag pocket, the detached pocket is the two mag pocket. As you can see there is a single FAL mag in the double M16 mag pocket. The last pic is a FAL mag in the opening of the single mag pocket. Upon inspection, one 'COULD' get a FAL mag in there provided they Stretch out the material, like having an immobile mag and not be under any time constraints as it will be a bear to extract. Hope this helps Stimpy. Dont know where I can uncover a stash of rubber nipples for some folks though :bigangel:

Stimpy,
I think you're thinking of the Gen 2 LBVs that have the slanted pouches. The Gen 1's have straight up and down chest pouches. I have one of both and can't reliably insert and remove FAL mags in them. I do know that FAL and M14 mags fit excellent in a Blackhawk Omega 1 vest's pouches. Along with the elastic and the ability to insert the mag flap behind and out of the way of the opening, makes them for a good choice. I know that not everyone likes Blackhawk items, but I thought I'd throw the info out for anyone who wants it. I have one from a previous trade, but personally prefer the traditional M16 pouches with the dividers cut out. With a triangle bandage or compress bandage in the bottom they stick up and are more than able to be removed at a moments notice.

Yeah, the ones I got have the angled M16 mag pouches.
I modified one for myself and my brother. Basically I removed the two left pouches and both pouches down near the belt. Then I sewed on a modified leather FAL mag pouch that amounts to just the pouches with no flaps or keepers.
We'll see how they perform.

roadking4,
2 fit in the M16 mag pouches easily. One per pouch in the Omega vest, just tried it. With the elastic on the sides, they fit very snug.
