What type of bayonet goes on a SA R1 with a Belgian type flashider/combo?

So-called type C, tubular can-opener.

Call me crazy, but here's a question. I picked up a Belgian short flash hider, which I have yet to attach to my rifle. I was "testing" it with my so-called tubular style bayonet, but a few things came up.

1. The grenade retaining spring near the base of the device prevents it from being inserted into the bayonet. I'm assuming that once it is attached to my rifle, the force behind pressing the bayonet down onto the device will negate this effect. Am I correct here?

2. The bayonet notch is the one at the direct bottom of the device, right?

3. What are the cuts slightly lower than the midsection for?

I think those are all my questions.

Note! - I did use the 'search' function, and came up empty handed.
