After walking through the woodz on several trips over the last few years, I finally got a shot.
About 8 Hogs came out of the woodz along a trail I was watching last night right before dark. I was about to pack it in again when they came rambling out about 40 yards ahead of me.
I watched for a minute or so picking through them and decided on the one I wanted to take. They spooked once (not from me) but came right back. There were a couple really big sows, and some smaller black ones I coulda shot but no piglets. All looked nice and healthy, I think I picked the best one but there was a bunch of piggers to look at so I just took my best shot.
Anyway I looked through my LEUPOLD M8 2X Scope, picked my shot and dropped the hammer on my Super Blackhawk. The 44 Mag Black Talon ammo dropped her like a rock right were she stood.
She weighed in at 120 lbs. and dressed out a touch over 60.
If you ever wondered about the performance of Black Talon ammo? Don't, that shit packs a serious punch. My shot went behind her ear and tore up the base of her scull and back bone, and made a pretty nasty exit on the other side.
Well at least now after all these years since I had Magna-Port build that Gun I can finally say I shot something with it besides paper.

I gotta say I feel pretty good about the hunt. Using a Pistol has been something I have wanted to do for a really long time. I had a chance at a fine Hog a few years ago and the Dumb F*&$^ my friend brought along for the hunt thought I was waiting to long to take the shot and shot the damn thing himself over my left shoulder with a .270! I almost shot him after he did that.
I think hunting with a Pistol is a touch more chalenging, and now I have fulfilled one item on my list of many yet to achieve goals.
Guy's if I can get the pics I will try to post them. I did not have a Digital Camera and we used a regular 35 mm. Is there a way to make them digital?
If so I will try.
Thanx for the replies.

Yessir, scan the prints or the negs (if your scanner does negs.) My wife does it all the time. Wally World even gives ya yer pics on a CD as well as paper nowadays. Take your negs to them and tell them to get busy!:]

Congrats!
I have never hunted with a hand gun but it sure sounds like a challenge
I've never hunted hogs either:(
I never seen a wild hog:( (in person..up close ya know what I mean?)
I think there is suppose to be some hogs here in the southern part of the
state (Illinois)
Man...I still have some things to get done before I leave this Earth and hog hunting is going to be one of them.
Pics would be nice:wink:

Grounds for a beating
From the sound of Mike's general makeup, the schmuck may well have gotten said beating. If we find out the guy did in fact tote an a$$ whippin' then I will personally furnish Mike with all the Scotch, Cerveza and ceegars he can consume over a weekend! BYI (Bring your own Ibuprofen)

MMMMM, Scotch & Gars very very good!
Kinda funny now, but not so funny when it happened. The dude was very busy lookin over his shoulder the rest of the day. He asked my meat cutter (the friend I took along) what I might do? My bud said I really don't know but you may want to stay away from him, he may just shoot yer ass...
I will leave it at that
As I get older it seems the list of "YET TO DOOO'S gets a little shorter, and a little longer at the same time? Guess it's one them thare "QUANDRY" things?
I find myself less and less concerned with myself and more and more concerned with my Wife and Sons. Normal I think, it's a good thing I think..
But puttin a check mark on the old wish list is still a very cool thing. Ya really get caught up in every day life and "THANGS" & Priorities change.
Now I gotta go again, just have to figure what pistol to take next time? The Suoer Blackhawk, or maybe the T/C in .300 Wisper, or .44 Mag., or maybe I can swing a deal for a 45-70 barrel. That would be sweet.

44 mags with the right loads can be very deadly. I took a bunch of hogs including one very large razorback with 44 mag 240 grain HP's in a Super Blackhawk 44 mag in LA in the early 80's. Used 300 gn hard cast TCFP's on 2 black bears and 1 moose in AK back in the mid 80's. All shots under 25 yards. Those 240's knocked the hogs right off their feet. Except for the 220 lb (Dressed) Razorback. He just dropped after a 240gn spine shot just behind the head at about 15 yards.
The key to hogs is the right noises. I've stalked them on top of corn flakes (Dry leaves) for hours getting closer. You shuffle your feet and grunt and snort real lightly. Sound like one rooting around. Move real slow and keep your outline broken up. The damn things will talk back to you. If the winds in your face and the brush is thick enough you can get pretty damn close. They are curious and don't see well. They hear and smell real good. Have the pistol ready though. And cock it real slow covering it with your other hand and camoflauge the noise with more rooting sounds. Stay low and don't stand straight or move fast. You'll get one!
Congrats Mike! Watch out if she was suckling. Milk fat ruins the bacon!!!
