HI all, I have an L1A1 that I built that has been a dissapointment in the accuracy department to say the least! With Port, and Hirt. Surplus I can land about 2 out a full mag on a 100yard NRA target at 100yards from the bench, headspace is 1.631", the barrel has a good lathe cut crown etc, no muzzle device etc, I've tried a true and proven scope as well as the wobbly iron sights and gotten the same results both ways, handloads are nearly impossible because u.s. commercial brass comes out bulged after firing to the point they get stuck in the sizer die with good lube, it would appear the chamber is cut quite generous. The barrel bore itself looks pristine, but with ever so light looking "hash" marks in the groove I would assume is from the hammer forging process.... what else could cause this thing to shoot so loose? Any suggestions?

Anyway I was looking for a better barrel that I could at least also reload for . I came across a guy that has what he says is a Lithgow heavy barrel, he gave me some dimensions and it indeed sounds heavy!!!! Like 1.150" diameter up to the gas port. My real question to you guys is will this thing fit my L1A1? What about the handguards? Are these truly that much better barrels? WILL IT ACTUALLY HELP? Do they have tighter chambers?

Sounds like he has an L2 (Light machine gun) barrel, and probably not what you are after. Bore and chamber would be same specs as a standard L1A1; you would not be able to use handguards- bipod instead.

If it is an inch HB just buy it now! You have found a very rare piece indeed.
