Hi all,
I'm trying to build my Imbel into a 'swiss army rifle' type thing, and thus far I've gotten everything but the scope rings... which are proving to be a bit of trouble.
I'm using a substantially larger than average scope; an ATN 4-12x60, which is just a beast. But, it's also the scope that's turned in sub-1/2MOA groups on about 4 rifles now, where various Bushnells, Tascos, and Leupolds haven't been able to hit an MOA to save the world. Not to mention it's a lit reticle, 1/8th MOA clicks, and has a 500m BDC and 1000m rangefinder. Most importantly, it's the only good quality piece of optics I own at the moment greater than a straight 4x.
All that said, I found a set of rings that would work beautifully. IOR-Valdada's super-high QD rings (something like .775" from the base to the center of the ring). I found the Sniper Country PX, a store that sells said rings for $75, versus IOR's MSRP of $99... so I ordered them... only to find out they're backordered.
This was three weeks ago. I just emailed the owner of the SC PX and asked about the shipment, he says still no dice. Apparently IOR themselves are out at the moment. He suggested that if I'm tired of waiting, I could switch my order to a set of Leupold high QRW rings, which he says will work.
I've used Leupold "high" rings in standard format before on bolt actions rifles and found them to be too short for anything over a 50mm objective, and in some cases 50mm is pushing it.
So, to get to the point, has anyone used Leupold QRW's with a larger than 50mm objective? Did they work? Should I just wait and get the ones that I know will be tall enough?
Any other rings that might work? Keep in mind, QD is a must, so no Badger Ordnance or the like, please.
Quite honestly, at this point I'm seriously considering putting the ATN back on my Remington 700 (that already has a set of taaaalll Millett rings that work beautiully) and just mounting a Weaver K4T on the FAL with a set of 1" QD rings that I can get locally and not have to screw with it, until I can afford an IOR Super M2 scope to replace it.
Thanks for any input
