I have a S&W mod 28 "Highway Patrolman" in .357 mag/.38 spl.

WHAT SIZE HOLSTER DO I NEED FOR THIS FRIGGIN THING???????

Does this qualify as a "N" frame, a "L" frame, or some other frame????

Seriously, I have bought two different holsters now and neither one fits.

Help??!!#@$!@#???????

If I'm not mistaken the Model 28 is an "N" frame.

The Model 28 Smith is definitely an N frame.
I believe they are a less expensively finished version of the Model 27. S & W was aiming at the commercial police market so the price had to be in line or better than what Colt was offering. Still a very fine piece.
Lots of holsters usually on E-bay. You'll find more for 4" than 6. God help you if it is a 5" or 8 3/8" barrel. Holsters for those can be very scarce.

You can do better. Holsters for 4" are most common I think. There isn't much listed at the moment and you have to know prices, but deals can be had. I try to pay something less than half new price(including shipping). Depending on condition, it could be much less.

I picked up this holster recently off E-bay.

I'm getting the Mil-Tech as a simple holster for carrying my backup revolver when hunting. I'm paying $11 with shipping (or thereabouts....)

That'll do the job for you.
Just wanted to mention that gunshops and gunshows are also good sources for used gunleather at reasonable prices. There is also the advantage of being able to look them over closely and dicker on price(maybe).
Good luck.

For Hunting, I prefer shoulder holsters for heavier pistols liek these.

You should be able to pick up a used Bianchi X15 shoulder holster for around $20 plus shipping on ebay. You need a size large for a 6.5" Barrel.

They are normally about a $100 holster new.

The gun you have is fairly heavy. Couple that with the holster you bought and I think you'll have some issues with it. We used to make nylon but got out because of the cheap imported stuff coming in. I still have some holsters we used to make in stock at half of the retail price. If you've got a 4" or 6", the price is $8.48 for a lined holster that has the back folded over and sewn for a 21/4 belt which would provide a much more stable platform for your gun. The ride of the holster is slightly lower with a slight forward cant.
