Just thought I'd post a pic of my refinish job. This is from a Round 1 hand pick FWRA/Ricketts R1 Kit. For an old war horse, I think it will do.

i bet the old chunk of stock they cut out for that repair had some teeth or fuzzy hair imbedded in it:eek:

That looks great! The old war horse looks like it's ready to do another 50 years of service.

Good work shootist. Looks like you took some time on that one.

Not really. Just followed RM Lamey's  old posted instructions [modified to use raw Tung oil as the final step] using chromium trioxide as the stain/shock treatment. Some light sanding with 200, 400, and 600 grit paper. I probably have a couple or three hours in it total.
Any dings it had are still there and the heal repair gives it some character. :)
BTW, this is the second SA wood I've done. Both are beech.

That looks COOL!! I remember that stock!! When we were sorting, one of the guys there wanted me to pass it by. I said hell no--the repair gives it character. And it sure does!! Looks REAL, you know what I mean??

That's great!
I have a SA stock that I restored that has two small burn marks directly behind the stock tang- like somebody was holding a cigarette while trying to keep the cherry not visible to others.
