I have the unfortunate luck of living in an apartment complex with some neigbors who are not to keen on guns. Even though they know I trained for the Olympics before I blew out my knee all they see is "Assault Weapon." Here in Virginia you can open carry without a permit (though I have one anyways) and one of them decided to call the police reporting that there was someone walking around with a gun. Yeah I had a gun and I was walking around (my parked car). I was on the phone with the Sherriff''s office and my gun was securelcy holstered. It took 30 minutes to remind the local city police I was within my rights. That being said I am now transporting my EBRs to the range in better cases than I used to so I do not have to waste another 30 minutes of my day dealing with the local village idiots.

What I am looking for is any suggestions as to what would be a good case to keep my IMBEL FAL with bipod and scope in that will not set me back a whole lot but maybe keep my neigbors also off my back. Any suggestions would be greatly appreaciated. Thanks

Maybe your EBR would fit into an electric guitar case. You might have to remove some foam padding. You should be able to find one used at a pawn shop or music store.

I saw someone suggest a golf bag once. You can get them cheap at garage sales. Maybe use a driver sock to cover what sticks outside of the bag. Add some clubs for realism. The guitar bag or case sounds good.

I am looking for a bag or backpack or something I can carry in the back of my extra cab truck. I would like to keep my CCW in it when I have to enter places where CCW is not allowed. I need a bag that would not be worth stealing if my truck is broken into. I was thinking about a bible case / book cover. You know like a daytimer sized zipper pouch. I found one but now I need to fit some foam inside and check it out for printing. I don't like the daytimer / holsters because thieves would just steal the entire thing. People keep credit cards and money in daytimers and that is why I went with the bible case. I would not think a thief would be interested in that.

I actually did this! Used the case for a Fender Jazz Bass, lined it with some Crapsman tool box drawer liner, traced around it, and cut it out.
You can get better, thicker foam from other places, and the case was one I "just had laying around". Lots of room for accessories, too.

This may be overkill since it is a double rifle case, but check this thread out:

 True, but then again all those rifle bags and cases look like rifle bags and cases to gun owners. I know if I see a well made padded case, my first reaction is "what kind of gun could fit in there?" or "do I have anything that needs a padded case like that?"

Woodland Camo is a giveaway though, even if it isn't an EBR, peple still associate it with hunting.

Id look into one of those Starlight cases. They have been going cheap, like <$75, here in the market place where people have found them cheap at their local Sams club. There should be some on Ebay also. They may not scream gun to some.

Another alternative is to buy one of those hard travel cases for golf clubs and refit it to hold some guns.

I say screw your neighbors. I think you can do something about them by filing a complaint with the cops. You can have them declared a malicious something or other, I cant remember the proper term. People just cant call the cops repeatedly for no good reason just to be a PITA.

We shouldnt have to sneak around to do 2A stuff.

When travelling I carry a folding stock Rem.870 and a disassembled AR-10 in a bag made for tennis rackets. After September 13th the AR gets replaced by a Para-FAL.

I like the tennis racket bag because the shorter length makes it seem not long enough for weaponry and it doesn't seem to be an expensive item like an electric guitar. The image is completely non-threatening and almost too cheap to steal.

It also has side pockets for handguns and ammo.

I think it cost me $17 at an Oshman's.

I have an Alexander Arm's Ghenghis (5.45x39) with a 16"barrel. Broken down it is pretty small and since they are so easy to reasemble; a tennis raquet case or something similar might not be such a bad idea. I will deffinately have to look into my options. As far as a case for my FAL goes I think I am going to get a tactical bag with backtraps or hardshell cased from CTD that meets airline requirements. Possiblly something like what I use for my international match Anchutz.

Thanks for the input,
HGG

You wont find a tuffer case then the Starlight. It far exceeds airline requirements and is military grade. It could hold four rifles (custom cut out) if you could standing lifting it into your vehicle.

I would have to agree that any well made case, such as a Pellican or the like, is going to make folks think "gun." I really like the golf bag idea, especially if you find an inexpensive one at a yrad sale or flea market. You can cut out some of the framing to fit one or two EBR's, and through in a putter or beat up driver for camo. My $.02 anyways,

Thank you all...

The suggestions you have given are very good. As far as the Starlight cases go, though they are extremely good cases, they far exceed my needs as well as my budget. I was looking for something under $100. I think the WRB cases are a really good idea because they are affordable and can be carried easily on my shoulder or as a backpack for some bags. If I were to go for a hard case I think one of the hardshell metal cases from CTD would do just fine for me. I have one that I keep my AR and Saiga in and is absolutely wonderful. Problem with that one is its just a few inches too narrow for the FAL.

I have to applaud all of you on your unique homemade case ideas because I certainly would not have thought of them. I am seriously wondering if my old golf bag could be retrofitted to be a good gun/range bag.

Again thanks for all the help and ideas!

Starlight double rifle cases were recently put on closeout sale at SAM's clubs ranging in price from $40-75ish. You can probably pick one of those up second hand but still new for just under your $100 price tag from the marketplace or some online auction sites. Sometimes a hardside is too much to carry around, especially for quick trips to the range, I'm going to be getting some of those WRB for my folders that are too big for my pistols bag, but don't fill my rifle bags well.

If your moving a SMG or smaller, check out a nail gun bag.
They are padded and can have DEWALT , ect printed on outside.
