I've been considering trying to build an FAL and now that I look around I don't seem to see nearly as many vendors selling kits as before......and the kits seem to be much more expensive than I recall. I was hoping someone could enlighten me or send me a link that explains this sudden scarcity. I read in one of the vendor forums that there is some kind of lawsuit that is the cause. Can anyone elaborate on this?

Since just about anyone here has been following FAL's longer than me I was also wondering if anyone had a "feel" for how long this current drought might last.

Oh, one last thing. Can anyone recommend someone in the Houston area who would build or at least do the timing; barreling, headspacing, etc and parking.

Thanks!

For kits I would contact DSA or Gunthings.com.

Thousands of Imbel kits where seized by the ATF.

Some nonsense about the receivers not being demilled properly.
They MAY be returned some day, but don't hold your breath.

I second Sladgehamm (Randy). Wonderful guy, and his products are top notch.

DSA isn't selling compete STG58 kits anymore!

It sounds like a very nice kit and I'd buy it but I expect the BBT to come by today with a package from J&T. A lot of the kits you see for sale now are the R1s and seem to me to be sort of ratty. The StG58 will build into a great rifle and probably will not require refinishing unless you absolutely have to.

Just my 2 cents.

A little bird (Harlan) told me that FAC has some Imbel kits for around $185.00.
