There seems to be a lot out there for FALs; but I'm not sure which would fit the bill.
I'm looking for something that can hold FAL mags. For my needs, not necessarily something that holds a large number; but maybe just a few, and not get in the way.
I currently have some M1A pouches; but hope to avoid the bat-belt.
Also, I'm looking for something, hopefully, that can hold up one's pants as well. Are there any tac vests etc. that hook to one's belt, and act as suspenders?
If it makes any difference to the selection, I'm 6'5"
Thanks,

Get some regular suspenders for you pants. If you're looking to get in cheap, try the chicom type 63 rifle LBE or chest harness. Both have single mag pouches which offer a lower profile set up than double mag rigs do. I've had one of the chest rigs modded a bit so that it will also hold AR mags(elastic replacing the standard toggle loops). It holds a Makarov in one of the pouches and 6 FAL/G3/20 rd. AK/AR mags quite nicely. There is also a 5 pocket model.
If money is no object, have one of the custom guys whip you up a one of a kind piece.

Ken where do you get the type 63 vest?
The Blackhawk MOLLE gear is great. The M-14 mag pouches are fine for the FAL. They hold the 20 rounders just fine, and you can attach them anywhere.

You gotta know the right folks....:]
Lemme dig thru my favorites folder and the boxes in the basement. I'll either have a few extra, or find where out where to get them. IIRC, price was ~$30. A bit more than the standard Chi-com 3 cell AK deal, but a much better fit for FAL mags. The mods I had done(new straps, some extra QR fastex points, elastic loops on the lids, Mak sleeve, belt attatchment points) ran another $20, but I think I got a great price on that. The origianal set up works fine.

I have one of these in OD.

It will hold two FAL mags per mag pouch but you will need to stuff some socks or something in the bottoms to push them up so you can grab them good. I cut up some pf the plastic pistol ammo holders that come in boxes of ammo. They are designed for AR mags so it will hold three per and it will take AK mags also.
It can be bought here (http://www.majorsurplusnsurvival.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=MSS&Product_Code=156686&Category_Code=23) for $20.

Pic of the modified Type 63. This pic shows it loaded with 30 rd. AR mags. The far left and right pockets won't hold a 30 rd. AR mag, but it will hold 2 20's or a 7.62 mag. Loops as shown are a little large to securely hold FAL mags, but making them a bit smaller or of a different type(QR or some other such method) would fix that up. Another option is to use magpuls. With magpuls, the mag doesn't sit as far down(too tight to fit over the magpul), and the lid is a bit stretched, but still functional, and then serves as a pretty good multi rifle platform.
I'm pretty sure I've got a few more unmodified sets in the basement, and will be going digging thru my stuff looking for them this weekend. I know I got an email from one member, but would be glad to move out a few more if anyone was interested....
