after doing some research it seems Fox Labs and Freeze +p seem to be the two most effective along with the ASP palm defender for portability.

anybody used any of these three and how effective were they?

thx

Avoid the ASP line. There are issues with the delivery system.

Fox is a very good product along with Freeze. The question is, how do you want it delivered? Fog? Stream? I issue the Guardian product with flip top and stream, 5.3 mil SHU/10%. Hot stuff - very effective.

I've recommended to Joe Citizens that for everyday contacts, the fog is just fine. It ensures that a general application is effective in a close in/high stress environment. I recommend stream if citizens have taken a training class and have practiced effective application with inert sprays (less likely to have cross contamination of self and others who are not a threat).

There are several sizes to choose from and there are some handy palm/"jogging" units out there to hold the units. Avoid those cheesy keyring models. Poor delivery systems plus ineffective amounts. If you buy either type, try to get one with a marking dye. Nothing better than to catch the gagging bright orange perp as he staggers on the sidewalk.

Also, if you carry OC, have decontamination spray handy in case you or other loved ones are contaminated by the spray. I presently use Decon from Guardian products. Stuff is a dream to use (I have used it several times in training and field use - application to affected person to fully seeing and functioning in 10-15 minutes).

Just some input from a department OC instructor.

I don't think it is but I'll double check when I get to the station later.

2-3 mil SHU is usually fine for most encounters. Management got all excited about the hotter stuff so we got some.

We have seen less OC usage now that everyone carries TASER M26s.
