I recently ended up with a US 56 pattern buttpack and H-harness from a larger bunch of stuff I bought.
So now I'm in the process of buying an M56 web belt and canteen. Next comes the holster for the 1911A1. Funny how this stuff starts.

So, my question is:
What are the five eyelets on the right side of the flap of the buttpack for?
Any other info on setup for this rig is greatly appreciated.

TIA

I was told once that was for attaching the etool , I do not know if that is correct or not. Just what I was told.

damn you had to do it didn't you......had to dig out my FM 21-15, as it got me curious as well :D

those eyelets are used to attach double hooks used on old field equipment such as wire cutters and machetes.

BTW are you sure you have a 1956 field pack, and not a 1961 or 67? the difference is the 61/67 has a plastic liner while the 56 doesn't

here is a good source for setting up you web gear.....

Ahhhh, thanks 16R40, it is suddenly quite a bit more clear. Apparently designed for the right handed specialized warrior.
BTW, buttpack is 58, suspenders are 56.
